For this customer, she wanted to bring some southwest charm to her Brooklyn 1 bedroom apartment, but at the same time keeping a modern vibe. Having grown in the Southwest, I knew exactly what she was talking about, but I wanted to steer clear of the typical traditional Southwest look and think outside the box.
She wanted a selection of everything from furniture to decor pieces, and didn’t have a budget set. I ended up making a selection of a variety of things that would make the space feel cozy and finished, instead of looking like it was halfway done. In these cases, if you don’t have the budget to purchase all the pieces, I would recommend getting what you need the most first (ex. bed, dresser, sofa) and start getting the rest of the pieces as you go.
Unfortunately, this project didn’t move forward after the design concept presentation, but I still wanted to share it because I loved how all the options came out.
I would love to know which ones where your favorite. If you have any questions about sourcing, please let me know in the comments. And if you would like to get started on your own project, you can contact me here.
BEDROom
For the first option, I selected white furniture pieces with pops of color on the decor , to keep it playful but not too busy.
For the second option, I went for southwestern patterns but less of the color. By keeping it black, green and white, with touches of gold, we created a new look that I like to call “Southwest but make it glam”
LIVING ROOm
For the living room I prepared two very different options, one that was more modern with a fresh light pastel colors. It is like beachy but colorful and my fave of the two.
This one was inspired by a combination of Monica Geller’s apartment in Friends and mid century modern look. The colors are darker and the furniture has more of an industrial look.
